Curves and Confidence

I have two words that sum up the social media revelation of 2017: Body Positive. Now if you thought I was going to say squiggly brows or glitter armpits you might want to put your phone down and step outside for a nice cup of reality. Women have been subjected to the stigma that females are not allowed to look a certain way from a very young age. Tall, thin, and legs for days are just a few of the expectations. However, many body positive social media accounts have taken on the task of showing the world what real women are like; belly rolls, cellulite, and stretch marks, to name a few. We come in all different shapes and sizes and that is something that needs to be celebrated! One of my idols that has definitely embraced this idea is Ashley Graham, the first “plus size” model on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Issue. She radiates confidence in her curves, often requesting for her photos not to be retouched and encouraging others to love themselves: “It doesn’t matter what size you are. It doesn’t matter if you have cellulite. It doesn’t matter if things jiggle where they’re not supposed to. That’s still beautiful.”
